PPN Gifts Funding to Metabolomic, Genetic, and Biomarker Research in PANS

The PANDAS Physicians Network gifts $25,000 to the Stanford Immune Behavioral Health program in memory of Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Mellins, a pioneering physician-scientist in pediatric immunology, to support biomarker research in Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS).

Funds will support three areas:

  1. Blinded statistical analysis of metabolomic biomarkers to distinguish PANS cases from controls.
  2. Whole exome sequencing and analysis to identify genetic variants that confer predisposition to PANS.
  3. Laboratory and related costs for additional biomarker research, including publication and travel costs for students.
