PANS/PANDAS
AWARENESS DAY
is October 9

Help turn awareness
into action.

PANS/PANDAS Awareness Day is a day to increase awareness of the treatable immune mediated neuropsychiatric conditions.

This day unites parents, clinicians, and advocates to spotlight the urgent need for early diagnosis, evidence-based care, and funding for research for these life-altering conditions.

BE AWARE.
Key Facts About PANS/PANDAS

Recognize the Symptoms.

An abrupt, dramatic onset of OCD, restrictive eating, and other neuropsychiatric symptoms is a hallmark of the immune-mediated neuroinflammatory conditions PANS and PANDAS. Common associated symptoms include separation anxiety, emotional dysregulation, behavioral regression, academic decline, motor and/or sensory sensitivities, and urinary frequency.

Look for Infections.

Strep and other infections—such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae, influenza, upper respiratory infections, and sinusitis—can trigger a misdirected immune response resulting in neuroinflammation that causes behavioral changes and psychological distress.

Know the Treatment Protocols.

Treatment for PANS and PANDAS is a three pronged approach that addresses the source (infections), the immune system dysfunction, and the symptoms. Treatment may include antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, immunomodulating therapies, and symptom management.
