PPN Gifts Funding to Metabolomic, Genetic, and Biomarker Research in PANS
The PANDAS Physicians Network gifts $25,000 to the Stanford Immune Behavioral Health program in memory of Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Mellins, a pioneering physician-scientist in pediatric immunology, to support biomarker research in Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS).
Funds will support three areas:
- Blinded statistical analysis of metabolomic biomarkers to distinguish PANS cases from controls.
- Whole exome sequencing and analysis to identify genetic variants that confer predisposition to PANS.
- Laboratory and related costs for additional biomarker research, including publication and travel costs for students.
